This series of five paintings stemmed from contemplating the tissues of the reproductive organs and how the narrative of anatomical dissection in topics around the reproduction of life brings mere wonder to me as a queer person rather than answers to the questions surrounding the mystery of birth. Thinking of seeds, stems, roots and eggs led me to reconsider plants, and flowers in particular, not only as symbols of procreating, but more of a way of living and transmission of that living experience inherent to nature and us as part of that world.

The main motif for this painting was my fascination with the natural entanglements of roots and plants that reminded me of braided and knitted textiles. When making this work I discovered that the entangled entity of yarns, roots, or chords holds for me a universal power and meaning. Comparing them to Magdalena Abakanowizs' woven sculptures, I produced a series in which an organically entangled form is unravelled through a medium of a painting.

These drawings came to be through observing the intricate relation between breathing and speaking as a way to give birth to new wor-(l)-ds.
I was asking myself: How do I articulate knowledge and how much time does it take to understand something in a world that prioritises speed and constant reproduction?
How to take courage to speak within the wor-(l)-ds that we came to be.
